Maud is an experienced upholsterer who has been working in Cumbria for several years. She qualified after a specialist apprenticeship in Paris that also involved cooperations with other crafts people such as leatherworkers - so the idea of being part of a cooperative is not new to her. Born in Toulouse, France, she has lived in the UK since 2014.
Maud worked with Wool Clip member Jean Wildish on a “Workshops in People’s Homes” arts project, called NEST!. This was exhibited at Woolfest in 2016. There has not been an upholsterer in the group previously although there’s a really strong wool connection to the materials that are used in traditional upholstery
She will create really authentic products that combine local materials with traditional skills, some using fabrics woven by other members in her work. Bigger pieces will be on commission and there will be samples of chairs on display in the shop. She is also developing ideas for smaller home items and sewing accessories that use upholstery techniques so that there are pieces of work for sale in the shop too.
A portfolio of photographs of Maud’s work is now on display at The Wool Clip shop. She is happy to give prices for particular re-upholstery and unusual creative projects.
