Caldbeck & Priest's Mill: Make It A Day Out
The Wool Clip shop is in a beautiful location on the ground floor of Priest's Mill at Caldbeck, at the "Back o' Skiddaw" and alongside the Cald Beck river. It is almost equidistant from Penrith, Carlisle, Keswick and Cockermouth and a great place for exploring both the Border areas & the Lake District.
See our Links page for lots of ideas for places to stay, visit and explore in and around Caldbeck.
The Mill has a fascinating history, explained and explored by one of our members, June Hall, in a display of mill workings and artefacts that forms part of the shop.
If you are making a shopping trip to The Wool Clip then it is worth visiting some of the other specialist shops in the Mill and in the village. Hesta Scene?, just up on the main road from us, is a gal lery and shop selling contemporary arts and crafts and there is also The Potting Shed with plants and gardening gifts on the lane from the main road. The Priest's Mill is also home to Neil Edgar, a local jeweller and goldsmith and Something Special sells antiques and collectibles. The Watermill Cafe is just upstairs from The Wool Clip, serving coffees, teas and wonderful lunches and snacks. There are also a couple of traditional pubs in the village and the famous Old Crown Inn at Hesket Newmarket (with its own microbrewery) is just a couple of miles away.
There is plenty of free parking either alongside the Mill or in the National Park car park in the village and lots of possible routes for walks, cycle rides or ambles.
We love being based here and hope that you will find time to explore when you next visit The Wool Clip.
